Apple Announces Its First Touchscreen MacBook Pro

Apple has unveiled its first touchscreen MacBook Pro, reversing a position the company held for more than 15 years that touchscreens were poorly suited for laptops. 9to5Mac reports: The new machine features a light-up Apple logo, tandem OLED, and touch input on the display. It runs on the M5 Pro and M5 Max chips, like the existing MacBook Pro models without OLED touch displays. John Ternus, who is rocking a new profile picture with the new Mac, shared the first look at the new machine on X. Pricing for the new laptop starts at $2899 for the 14-inch model. The 16-inch version starts at $3399. Pre-orders are available starting today with deliveries starting November 6.

Linux kernel goes full AI slop code, hides chatbot commits

Pivot to AI:

I suggest the social action: shame. Shame these people. Their actions are shameful. AI bros hate being shamed and they try to make rules against shaming -- because shame works.

None of these people doing shameful things deserve a place in polite company. They should be shamed for their shameful choices.

The AI industry is also running a PR push to redefine common word usage. The word "slop" is also super effective -- so the bros really hate "slop" and try to define it to mean slop they don't like. But all AI output is slop. It's social spam. That's what it's for. It's slop! Say "slop" every time.

The Linux AI slop brain rot will collapse with the AI bubble. You see these bozos comment on Linux Weekly News with dumb AI promotional tropes like "AI is here to stay" as if the bubble will go on forever. But the crash is foreordained by the finances. Linux nerds, go read the finance press for once. Even if AI was everything they say it is -- and it isn't -- the investor money is running out, and you can't service hundreds of billions of dollars in debt with five billion in audited revenue.

Previously, previously, previously, previously.

Five Palestinians, including a woman, were killed and several others injured Friday in a series of Israeli strikes and attacks across the Gaza Strip, Anadolu reports. The attacks came as Israel continued to violate the ceasefire agreement that has been in effect since Oct. 10, 2025. An Israeli quadcopter drone dropped a bomb near Abu Tammam School in Beit Lahia, northern Gaza, killing 52-year-old Anaam Abdullah al-Attar. Another Palestinian was killed and several others were injured in an Israeli strike targeting a gathering of Palestinians in Al-Zawayda town in central Gaza. A Palestinian was killed and six others injured earlier in an Israeli drone strike on an apartment in Gaza City, while the Israeli army carried out a limited ground […]

Linus Torvalds: ‘AI Is a Tool, Just Like Other Tools We Use. And It’s Clearly a Useful One.’

1 Comment and 2 Shares

Linus Torvalds:

I realize that some people really dislike AI, but this is an area where I’m willing to absolutely put my foot down as the top-level maintainer.

Linux is not one of those anti-AI projects, and if somebody has issues with that, they can do the open-source thing and fork it.

Or just walk away.

AI is a tool, just like other tools we use. And it’s clearly a useful one.

It may not have been that “clearly” even just a year ago, but it’s no longer in question today.

There are other questions around AI (like what the economy of it will actually look like in the end), but “is it useful” is no longer one of those questions. Anybody who doubts that clearly hasn’t actually used it.
